Ultrasound

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds are powerful diagnostic tools that create real-time images of the inside of an animal’s body. This composite image reveals important information about the pet’s internal processes including the circulatory, skeletal and gastrointestinal systems, and they help Bear Valley’s veterinarians identify internal issues like disease, blockages and injuries.

An ultrasound works by broadcasting high-frequency sound waves that reflect off your pet’s internal structures. A small probe held against the skin collects the returning signals and reinterprets them into an image of the internal body. At Bear Valley Veterinary Care Center, we use ultrasounds most commonly to examine abdominal organs like the stomach, kidneys, liver, spleen and gallbladder. Because ultrasounds don’t require radiation, they are also often used to monitor pregnancies and fetal health in breeding pets.

Veterinary ultrasounds can detect a broad range of abnormalities including cardiovascular disease, skeletal fractures, some forms of cancer, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies and organ disease. They are completely painless and noninvasive, and they don’t require anesthesia or sedation. The ultrasound is one of the most remarkable, precise diagnostic tools in the veterinary industry.

Board-certified veterinary radiologists operate our advanced diagnostic imaging technologies at Bear Valley Veterinary Care Center.
