Preparing For Your Pet’s Visit

We want to ensure your pet’s visit to our hospital is as seamless and stress-free as possible. Please find your visit type below and make sure to come prepared!

New Clients/Patients

Our address is 2111 S Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO. 80227; Located off of Sheridan and Evans.

  • Medical Records: It is critical that we receive your pet’s previous medical history. Please email all medical records to info@bearvalleyvet.com or call your previous veterinarian for permission to release them.

Wellness Visits

  • Fasting: Fast for bloodwork, unless diabetic. If on levothyroxine, give medication 4-6 hours before the appointment.
  • Samples: Bring a fecal sample. For pets over 5 years old, also bring a urine sample or avoid letting your pet urinate 2 hours before the visit.
  • Medication Information: Know the names, strengths, and brands of all medications your pet is taking.
  • Food Information: Know the brand and variety of food you feed your pet.
  • Self Check-In: Complete the self check-in that is emailed or texted to you before your visit.

Issues with Vomiting/Diarrhea

  • Sample: Bring a fecal sample.

Urinary Issues

  • Sample: Bring a fecal sample. For pets over 5 years old, also bring a urine sample or avoid letting your pet urinate 2 hours before the visit.

Surgery/Anesthesia/Sedation

  • Fasting: No food after 10 PM the night before surgery. Water may be given up until the admit appointment time.
  • Medication: Ask for instructions on any medications your pet is taking. Some may need to be given the morning of surgery, while others should not.
  • Communication: Keep your phone available throughout the day for communication.
  • Discharge: Discharge time will be scheduled when you admit your pet.
  • Surgery Recovery: Bring your own surgery recovery suit or E-collar/Comfy cone, or one will be sold to you at discharge (if applicable).

Abdominal Ultrasound/Echocardiogram Admission

  • Drop-Off & Pick-Up: Your pet will be dropped off for the day, and you will be called when the procedure is complete. Your pet will be shaved for the ultrasound.
  • Fasting: If having an abdominal ultrasound, they must be fasted for 12 hours (water may be given up until the admit appointment time).
